Parting is Sweet Sorrow

It's time for Charly to go back to his place in the woods. He has been here a month now and done his duty. I am told that the only sure way to determine successful breeding is that a pregnant doe will not come back into heat. It has been 28 days since my girls' last heat (typical cycles are 21 days), and altho Charly has shown a mild interest, I think it is safe to conclude babies are on the way. Using a gestation calculator, I anticipate their arrival on February 20th.

I hate to see Charly go. It has been wonderful having him back home with us. But the goat yard needs to become a maternity ward and things will be a little calmer without testosterone. He will be happy back on the acreage, and we will look forward to next breeding season, when he can come home again.

^ ^ Here is a picture of Charly waiting patiently for a treat! Ha!

  1. I wish I had got to see Charly. I've been gone so much. Just got back from Virginia yesterday and leaving again next week.

I can't wait to see his offspring!
